Perhaps it’s just an immense coincidence, but the amusing fact is that I have been tagged simultaneously by Iris, BVN & Matt, all three of whom have done simply splendid jobs of this tag, that promptly demands me to board the Time Machine and travel back to the 80’s, and dig out 8 facts about my childhood that I simply adore, and 8 others that I plainly abhor. Without a second thought, here goes.

The smiles were all about:

:) My dad who lived an entire life for his son.

:) Diwali, that would be eagerly anticipated, come every August (Just 2 more months to go before November!) and the crackers that would be the merry accompaniments. Not forgetting to mention the lip smacking sweets.

:) Superhit Muqabla on DD2, every Sunday night at 9 PM.

:) The Monsoons; going to school in the rains and the deliberate attempts to swing the umbrella away on the way back home, with a definite purpose to get drenched, blaming it all on the truant wind to an ever smiling mom.

:) The arrival of Poombaatta, the children’s comic, once in every two weeks, and Kapish the prankster monkey, who was much more than a bosom pal.

:) the video cassette player, and a whole lot of films that this amazing machine managed to show me without fail.

:) splashing about with a bunch of fellow hydrophiles in the shallow waters of a tiny river that used to flow by, with not even a clue as to what swimming was all about.

:) a hundred odd pets ranging from fishes to love birds to pigeons to rabbits, and what not!

The groans were all about:

:( My Math results, every term, every year.

:( The neck tie that was part of the school uniform, that almost choked me to death a couple of times.

:( being one of the smaller chaps in the class, with the additional disadvantage of being pushed all around by almost anyone and everyone.

:( the annual health check up, when I imagined myself dying of some unpronounceable sickness, only to emerge scathless year after year.

:( the butterflies in the stomach, each time I was summoned to the dais to sing the prayer.

:( the delightful excursions from the school that I never ever got to be a part of.

:( Moral Science classes - Friday, fourth hour.

:( never having a native place to rush back to during the hols; when everyone else all around seemed to have one, where usually fairy tales took place.

I should admit that I just love being tagged, and this one in particular, has been great fun! Thank ya so much, Trimurtis! Now, if only
James, Adi, GP, MindInside, Kathy, Neha, Strictly and Sunrise would take this one up from here….
